Parasitic Worms

Often, when people ask us about parasites, the conversation usually focuses on fleas and ticks. While these parasites are definitely  a concern, we should also be aware of parasitic worms. Many of these worms can make your pet sick, but they also have the potential to infect humans.  The CPEP (Canadian Parasite Expert Panel) recommends that pets in low risk households be treated with a deworming medication once or twice per year. Higher risk pets should be treated 3 or 4 times per year. Talk to your veterinarian about your pets' risk of being infected with parasites, and find out how best to protect your pet and your family.
